Water
… have you ever noticed
how water learns…. how it sculpts itself
around what is there - accepting curves -
or holes – even rough edges, equally,
how it spreads itself exactly,
pooling, then running off to soak itself
into sand or acquiesce to clouds
….have you ever noticed
drops join drops with a plopping
disappearing right then and there
into the puddle they become and then
spilling off, eroding or filling another space
like smoke curling and forming swirls
because it’s pointless to resist the pushing
…..have you ever noticed
the depth of patience it displays
always – even when it seems to hurry
yet is only cooperating with the way
things are at this moment – or the strength
it finds in falling and how with sunlight
it can paint the sky with a rainbow
